Human Factors Engineer

The opportunity
We are looking for people who want to use Human Factors techniques and usability principles to help develop products and devices which will improve people’s lives. Typical projects last from a few weeks to a few years, so you will get to work on a wide range of different projects. Some projects will need you to focus on human factors, whereas other projects may involve activities such as technology scouting or device development.

The Human Factors Engineer role
• Apply human factors methodologies to safety-critical products.
• Turn user research and insights into meaningful design recommendations.
• Organise and moderate Formative and Summative Evaluation studies.
• Conduct a range of qualitative and quantitative research techniques.
• Create usability engineering documentation.
• Chair workshops and focus groups.
• Present your work to clients.
You will be responsible for delivering your own work, often as part of a dynamic project team including designers, engineers, and scientists.
Requirements – you need to be able to demonstrate all of the following
• At least 6 months Human Factors work using the methods relevant to medical devices.
• Familiarity with FDA Human Factors guidance and IEC 62366.
• Team-working and communication skills, including visual, written, oral and presentation skills.
• Class 1 or 2.1 degree in a relevant discipline such as human factors, engineering, design, or science.
• On-site working in Cambridge. Eligibility to work in the UK. We are unable to sponsor work permits.
Desirable – these are not essential but if you have some, they will make your application stronger
• Experience in User Experience or Human-Computer Interfaces to evaluate digital user interfaces.
• Product development, design, or engineering experience, ideally using ISO 13485 and ISO 14971.
• Demonstrated interest, and ideally experience, in medical devices.
• An aptitude for building relationships with clients and colleagues.
