Design Transfer Engineer

The Sanner Group is a global Contract Design and Manufacturing Organisation (CDMO), offering our customers an end-to-end development service, and taking products from concept all the way through to high-volume production.

From our design centre of excellence, Springboard in Cambridge, UK, we develop a wide range of novel medical device and diagnostic products, from single-use consumables to complex electromechanical devices. We are seeking an experienced Design Transfer Engineer to be part of our rapidly growing team and lead the continued development of our capabilities in this area.
Working with both our Design & Development team and our Manufacturing teams, you will play a crucial role in the development of new devices to help improve people’s lives around the world. This role will act as the interface to ensure successful transfer of designs into manufacturing with our partner companies within the Sanner Group

The Design Transfer Engineer role:

  • Act as the technical lead for projects which are transferring between Design & Development and Manufacturing.
  • Promote good practice by identifying areas for improvement, proposing improvements, and implementing them. Areas could be company processes, new capabilities, or skills required etc.
  • Contribute to Project Management activities such as managing budgets, resources, timelines, and deliverables. Interface directly with customers to communicate project plans, progress, and risks.
  • Lead process development activities, develop assembly methods, and oversee prototype builds.
  • Lead test method development and execution, including engineering testing and formal design verification and validation.
  • Lead process qualification activities to ensure and document process capability.
  • Maintain Design History File documentation suitable for regulatory submissions.
  • Participate in design reviews and contribute to early-stage projects to ensure that future manufacturing is properly considered.
  • Contribute to new business development by planning and proposing new projects to customers.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering or equivalent technical subject.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant experience in product development, preferably in Design Transfer. Must include experience in the medical device industry.
  • Excellent communication skills and a proven ability to lead a team as part of a product development process.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and good knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Willingness to work on-site in Cambridge, UK, with occasional business travel to our manufacturing sites.
  • Eligibility to work in the UK. We are unable to sponsor work permits.

Desirable

  • Experience with plastics and injection moulding.
  • Experience promoting or using good manufacturing practices such as six sigma and lean manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of medical device regulations (FDA and ISO).
  • Experience with SolidWorks.
