Empowering Patients Through Smarter Drug Delivery

8 July 2025

For people living with a rare, progressive, and life-limiting disease, access to the right treatment can be transformative. Our client has developed the first and only therapeutic option for a condition like this—an important step forward in care. However, like many early-stage drugs, it must be stored in a lyophilized form, requiring careful reconstitution before injection.

This reconstitution process can be complex and demanding, often requiring significant time, dexterity, and training. While platform devices exist, none met the specific challenges of this application.

Springboard brought together a multidisciplinary team with deep experience in drug delivery and device development to explore a better path forward. Guided by a rigorous yet creative process, we generated and refined a series of innovative device concepts – each designed to simplify the reconstitution process and reduce user burden.

Through iterative design and feasibility testing, we arrived at two promising concepts. We built a “works-like” prototype to validate technical performance and a “looks-like” prototype to help visualize the future product experience. These tangible models became powerful tools for our client to engage stakeholders and align on a shared vision.

Today, development is moving forward with confidence. The result will be a device that enables patients to prepare and self-administer advanced therapies more easily — bringing life-changing treatments closer to those who need them most.
