Strategic Medical Device Integration Could Transform Patient Care

12 May 2025

One of our clients, a global leader in the pharmaceutical industry, wanted to rethink how their complex therapies are delivered to patients. They are developing a new version of their flagship drug, a treatment renowned for its efficacy, but equally known for its intricate administration routes and nuanced indications.  Recognising the potential to improve both patient outcomes and healthcare provider efficiency, the company asked us to get to the bottom of a vital question: Can a medical device be integrated into the treatment pathway to simplify delivery, enhance adherence, and broaden access globally?

To explore this, we partnered closely with their internal stakeholders. Through a series of in-depth interviews across departments, from R&D to commercial strategy, we gathered a broad and detailed view of the needs, challenges, and opportunities associated with the drug’s next-generation formulation. We then applied our deep expertise in medical devices to translate these insights into a comprehensive set of product requirements.

These requirements now serve as a strategic lens through which the company can assess existing delivery devices, emerging technologies, or the feasibility of developing a bespoke solution tailored to this drug’s unique characteristics.

It was more than a technical assessment and rather a transformational opportunity. The right device could do more than streamline the administration of a complex therapy; it could improve quality of life for patients, reduce workload for clinicians, and even pave the way for at-home or community-based treatment models.

By combining stakeholder insight with technical expertise, we’re helping our client chart a course toward innovation that doesn’t just reformulate a drug, it helps redefine the patient experience.
